FAQ
What is the difference between DCI, DCA, DCJ, DCE?
Most drum and bugle corps are regulated by a governing body. In the US, the most well-known governing body is Drum Corps International. (DCI) Another example is the Drum Corps Europe organization, (DCE) which is based in Europe!
Another major difference between each governing body is how each corps competes. Drum Corps may have their own competitive circuits, while other corps do not compete at all.
Drum Corps is very expensive, how can I reduce the cost to march?
Tuition fees for drum corps seems to have skyrocketed over the last decade. If money is an issue, there are various scholarships available through Marchdrumcorps, Drum Corps International, AlumniFunds, Couchmen, and more. You just have to look for them and then apply!
Some students raise funds through other means, such as gofundme. A lot of others take the time to work through high school, saving as much money as possible. Try to be creative, and start saving up your money now!
How can I know which corps has the right culture or 'vibe' for me?
Understanding the culture of a drum corps can be very challenging, especially if you have never attended an audition camp or do not know anyone who has recently marched there.
If you don't have any drum corps alumni in your immediate network of friends, you can text one of the MDC student advisors. Our advisory program consists of a wide variety of volunteers, who hail from the US, Canada, Europe, and even Japan.
If you would like to contact us, we may even be able to connect you to someone who recently marched at the drum corps you plan to audition for!
