Chris Pennington is currently a student studying music at James Madison University with a concentration in K-12 instrumental education. His primary instrument is clarinet and has had experience playing multiple auxiliary clarinets through his time in the Wind Symphony, and Symphony Orchestra. Throughout his college career, he has been a section leader and drum major for the Marching Royal Dukes. His drum corps experience includes two summers as a conductor and drum major for the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps. In 2014 he was a field conductor for the corps’ show “Pay it Forward: The Gift of Giving” and in 2015 he was one of the drum majors for the program “Sun Surfing” which was in honor of the corps’ 25th anniversary. Chris’ education experience includes being a visual/music instructor for Deep Run High School in Glen Allen, Virginia and Hanover High School in Mechanicsville, VA. In 2016, he was the visual coordinator for the Hanover High School Marching Hawks. During the summers of 2016 and 2017, he was an instructor for the JMU Summer Band Camps Drum Major/Leadership camp. Currently, Chris teaches private lessons in the Harrisonburg area.
