James Nufer teaches and performs around South Bend, IN. He teaches on the faculty at Southwestern Michigan College and the Citadel Center for Music and Dance in Benton Harbor, MI. Additionally, he maintains a private teaching studio for trumpet and French horn for students ranging from beginner to college.
He is in demand as a freelance artist throughout the Michiana region, with performance engagements including the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, Elkhart Municipal Band, and Lake Effect Jazz Big Band. James earned a Master’s in Music performance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he studied with Kevin Hartman, and a Bachelor’s in Music performance, where he studied with John Daniel. While in school, he spent three summers in DCI, first with the Oregon Crusaders (2006, mellophone), then Cascades (2007, trumpet), and aged out with the Blue Devils (2008, trumpet). He then continued in the activity as a brass instructor with the Troopers for the 2009 season, and from 2010 has been on the brass staff of the Oregon Crusaders, where he is currently a consultant.
